Aerial Film Australia (AFA)

Specialising in rotor and fixed-wing aerial solutions, AFA creates high calibre visual imagery for globally renowned, award-winning productions.
Ausfilm Member since 2021

AFA’s proven track record has been shaped by bringing Australia’s most experienced teams to helicopter and fixed-wing filming, armed with cutting edge equipment and backed by in-depth knowledge and logistical expertise.

AFA maintains its cutting-edge position by most recently adding a high-speed film jet, to its inventory of locally housed aerial platforms. AFA’s 15 years of experience and proven track record give “peace of mind” to productions. Our team is available to collaborate during pre-production, to assist in tailoring solutions for any size production’s individual requirements.

AFA’s in-depth knowledge of locations region-wide enables them to provide production options quickly. Whether looking for a uniquely Australian aesthetic or transforming a location to stand in as alternate global locations, or even off-planet! Aerial Film Australia’s in-depth knowledge of specialist locations across Australia also means they are able to cherry-pick, adding powerfully unique aesthetics from cityscapes to remote red desert or rugged, glistening emerald costal settings. AFA’s location and logistics experience enables them access to unique, remote locations otherwise inaccessible by road.

From its inception, AFA has had a philosophy of providing filmmakers, both in Australia and abroad, with premium helicopter filming solutions. The head of the AFA team and Company founder is award-winning feature film producer/director Gregory Read, who established the company, 15 years ago to provide a global calibre aerial film service to the Australian film industry. Initially, he collaborated with Californian, Nelson Tyler a three-time ACADEMY AWARD® winning engineer to establish AFA as the regional office of TYLER mounts (USA).

From these beginnings, AFA became one of the first aerial companies in the world to own and operate the ACADEMY AWARD® winning aerial camera systems the Shot Over F1 and K1. AFA’s head Aerial DP, Australian Academy nominated cinematographer Peter Beeh leads their specialist crew and helicopter film pilots across the far reaches of the Australasian region, with helicopters and aircraft engineers housed across the nation for speedy and cost-effective access.
