Princess Pictures was founded in 2003 by Laura Waters. Today, Waters and company partner and managing director Emma Fitzsimons have built a multi-purpose production centre in Melbourne, housing a team of smart, optimistic and ambitious people working in both live action and animation. Princess has an impressive track record across comedy, drama, features, children’s and animation, producing critically acclaimed and culturally impactful series and features.
In addition to the creation of original IP, Princess Pictures is a full-service live action and animation studio; from early development, talent attachment, financing and strategy through accounting support and legal, agency and tax rebate services, production/post-production/animation through final delivery to ongoing exploitation and royalty reporting. Princess has robust relationships with international buyers and financiers, proven with recommissions from a number of studios and producers.
In 2021, Princess Pictures launched a creative collaboration with animation company Bento Box to establish Melbourne-based animation studio Princess Bento, producing original Australian adult animation series for the US market and providing ongoing service work on original US series.
Princess Pictures burst onto the international cinema stage with Michael Shanks’ supernatural horror feature Together, starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie. Premiering at Sundance 2025, the film sparked a bidding war with Neon acquiring U.S. rights in a deal worth up to $20 million. Together went on to gross over $32 million worldwide, cementing the company’s arrival as a force in global filmmaking.
In television, Princess Pictures partnered with Netflix to launch Son of a Donkey, created by and starring Theodore and Nathan Saidden. The series quickly climbed to #1 on Netflix Australia’s Top 10, showcasing the company’s ability to translate distinctive local voices into international hits.
