BIGGEST CHALLENGES?

Multi-faceted challenges with core business concerns such as tax incentives, continuity of work, and efficient project/scope management presenting structural, procedural and personnel challenges to overcome.

As the work continues to get bigger and more voluminous, good technical & creative pacing becomes critical. Alongside finishing the film product, more sub-stages and side ventures are now common. Multiple director/audience screenings, trailers, cross-vendor sharing, commercials – all these additional milestones need to be serviced effectively.

And after all that there’s doing work that gets remembered and stands out from the crowd.

TRENDS?

I’m personally very excited about the introduction of viable VR and the progression of realtime engines, such as Unreal Engine, towards cinematic goals.

More traditionally films like Gravity, Interstellar, Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool are achieving amazingly subtle, optically rich, highly precise and crisp images – entirely computer generated whilst still engaging with audiences.

WHAT MAKES AUSTRALIA UNIQUE?

Culture and country.

Not being a native here, the things that impress me about the locals are a genuine honesty and ‘have a go’ attitude that mostly pays off.

Add to this the desire to work hard then get out and enjoy the lucky country and good weather.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN WORKING WITH CLIENTS?

Clear strong themes and direction whilst being given some freedom to explore. Good supporting material and organisation helps shape a good project.

OBSESSIONS [OUTSIDE FILM]?

The Maker scene and music. I love the crazy hacks people are doing with technology and I recently started getting into arduino and robots.

One of the few public outlets I have that isn’t movie related is Soundcloud where I post music tracks composed in Ableton.
