Angus Robertson

Recent Work

Truth; Mad Max: Fury Road; Joe Cinque’s Consolation; and Motorkite Dreaming.

BIGGEST CHALLENGES?

On Motorkite Dreaming, a 5 part doco for Redbull and touring with HotDocs, was made in the true spirit of amateur adventure …. on the smell of a very oily rag! Also providing filmmakers with the knowledge, support and understanding to realise a soundtrack that works with their aspiration, imagination and, most importantly, budget. Creating an environment that sound crews want to work in as first choice. Keeping busy.

TRENDS?

Content delivery across diverse and challenging multiple platforms. Immersive sound technologies including Dolby Atmos & Auro 3D.

Increased acknowledgement of sound by writers, directors, producers and audiences as a key storytelling device.

Post crews working remotely. Data transfer and exchange. File based delivery. Alternative distribution strategies and pathways.

WHAT MAKES AUSTRALIA UNIQUE?

Our small but extraordinarily skilled and talented mob of sound people and facilities that punch far above their weight; and produce world-class soundtracks on local budgets. Increasing working partnerships with overseas producers and sound crews. The challenges of funding cycles, exchange rates, incentive schemes and increased global competition from new and existing territories.

INSPIRED BY?

Great storytellers. Great sound. Simple Sound. Peers throughout our industry that continue to create in an environment that is less predictable than ever.  People that share their knowledge and skill. Collaboration. Honesty, truth and patience.

OBSESSIONS (OUTSIDE FILM)?

Politics, human rights, rugby (go the Waratah’s), junior sport and community clubs, walking, surfing, reading and family.
