Universal Television’s 10-part series La Brea, has commenced filming in Melbourne, Australia.

Announced today in Melbourne by the Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, Paul Fletcher and Victoria’s Minister for Creative Industries, Danny Pearson, the multi-million-dollar drama series has been supported through the Australian Location Incentive Program and Victorian Screen Incentive.

Minister Fletcher, said the production is expected to inject more than AU$71 million in foreign expenditure into the Australian economy, create jobs for 290 local cast and crew, and use the services of around 295 local businesses.

From writer David Appelbaum (The Enemy Within) and produced by Victoria’s Matchbox Pictures for Universal Television, La Brea is one of NBC’s most anticipated scripts.

The series stars Nicholas Gonzalez, Eoin Macken, Natalie Zea and Jon Seda, who is returning to Melbourne where he filmed the 2010 HBO series The Pacific, alongside local talent Rohan Mirchandaney and Chloe De Los Santos.

La Brea is one of four major television series currently underway in Melbourne, filming alongside Shantaram from Paramount Television and Apple TV+, NBCUniversal and Tony Ayres Productions’ Fires, and Werner Productions’ Surviving Summer for Netflix.

Victoria’s Minister for Creative Industries Danny Pearson said La Brea strengthens Victoria’s reputation as a hub of screen excellence.
