After a successful release in Australia the much-anticipated reimagining of iconic Australian story Storm Boy is in cinemas now across the US. The universal story about friendship and family is directed by Shawn Seet and stars Jai Courtney, Trevor Jamieson, and rising star Finn Little. South Australia’s stunning Coorong region provides the backdrop for Storm Boy, featuring majestic and rugged coastal landscapes of the region with the production based at Adelaide Studios. Post-production on Storm Boy was completed by Ausfilm members KOJO (Platinum Member) and Resin.

Anthony Maras’ Hotel Mumbai continues to move American audiences after an impressive opening. Bleecker Street launched the film, starring Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher and Tilda Cobham-Hervey across 924 screens. Rolling Stone’s Pete Travers praised Maras’ Hitchcockian feel for suspense and a documentarian’s eye for detail to the brutal events, whilst the LA Times’ Kenneth Turan commended the director’s approach of combining harrowing re-creations of the tumultuous real-life event.

What Hotel Mumbai does best is re-create — to an at times unrelenting extent — what the terror and confusion of being in this kind of situation must be like.

Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale is set for US release this summer, hitting cinemas on August 2 after a stellar festival run at the Venice, Adelaide and Sundance Film Festivals. The Nightingale marks Kent’s second directorial outing following her 2014 debut with acclaimed horror feature The Babadook. Academy Award winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro recently announced that Kent is attached to write and direct on his Netflix horror anthology series, Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight.
