SOUTH AUSTRALIA STRENGTHENS TIES WITH THE US

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall recently undertook a G’Day USA trade mission with an emphasis on building relationships between the South Australian and US screen industries.

Whilst in Los Angles this year, Premier Marshall announced a partnership between Bird in Hand winery, the SAFC and Australians in Film designed to support South Australian screen creatives in Hollywood, with a Residency and ongoing workspace.

South Australia took centre stage at the G’Day USA Australian Film Industry Showcase when Adelaide Studios shot sci-fi feature I Am Mother, starring Oscar Winning actress, Hilary Swank and was screened at the VIP industry event in Hollywood. The 200+ attendees included studio executives, film buyers, producers and directors.

Premier Marshall and SAFC CEO Courtney Gibson attended a variety of production meetings with various studios whilst in town to promote South Australia’s studio facilities, locations, PDV industry, tax rebates and incentives.

With four SAFC funded projects in selection at the Sundance Film Festival (I Am Mother, Animals, Top End Wedding and The Nightingale), Premier Marshall attended a reception for all the Australian film makers, hosted by Screen Australia and the South Australian Film Corporation, along with a screening of Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale.

Fresh from their Sundance success with Animals, Closer Productions are currently shooting drama series The Hunting, starring Asher Keddie (Offspring, The Cry) and Richard Roxburgh (Rake, Hacksaw Ridge, Moulin Rouge!) for SBS in Australia and distributed internationally by DCD.
