SOUTH AUSTRALIA SETS THE SCENE FOR MAJOR INTERNATIONAL PRODUCTIONS

South Australia continues to cement its reputation as a home of international cinema with a slew of major productions currently taking place across the state.

New Line Cinema’s highly anticipated action film Mortal Kombat is now in pre-production at Adelaide Studios, with a team of world-renowned Australian filmmakers bringing the reboot of the blockbuster video game adventure to the big screen. First time director Simon McQuoid is helming the production, joined by producer James Wan (Aquaman, Saw, The Conjuring films) and Executive Producer E Bennett Walsh (Men in BlackInternationalKill Bill Vols 1 and 2).

Drama series Stateless is currently filming in the South Australian desert with an all-star cast including Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Jai Courtney (Terminator Genisys, Suicide Squad) and Cate Blanchett. The six-part series is a production by Matchbox Pictures and Blanchett and Andrew Upton’s Dirty Films, with funding from the South Australian Film Corporation, Screen Australia and the ABC, and will be distributed worldwide by NBCUniversal.

New feature film Run Rabbit Run from The Handmaid’s Tale director Daina Reid will see the debut screenplay from South Australian writer Hannah Kent, the New York Times best-selling author of Burial Rites. Developed and financed by the South Australian Film Corporation, the film is due to begin pre-production soon at Adelaide Studios.​
