Having only recently opened their Sydney facility last year, RMS have kicked off the year with a strong run of feature film and large-scale productions arriving in cinemas and on streaming platforms. Across January, four recently completed projects were released in quick succession, highlighting the studio’s creative range and technical expertise in sound.
For the team at RMS, few moments are more rewarding than seeing months of detailed work come to life on screen, and the start of the year delivered exactly that.
Leading the releases was Christy (Black Bear), directed by long-time collaborator David Michôd. The compelling story was elevated through carefully crafted, immersive sound design that deepened its emotional impact and atmosphere.
The month also marked the arrival of Mercy (Amazon MGM) from acclaimed thriller director Timur Bekmambetov, alongside Saccharine (Carver Films) from rising horror filmmaker Natalie Erika James. Each production presented distinct tonal challenges and creative opportunities, enabling RMS Studio Sydney to shape carefully considered sonic worlds tailored to the demands of each story.
Rounding out the run was the epic War Machine (Lionsgate & Netflix). Directed by the impassioned Patrick Hughes, this was a large-scale production requiring an equally expansive soundtrack.
Both Mercy and War Machine were mastered in Dolby Theatrical Atmos, Nearfield and IMAX, and were among the first productions to move through RMS Studio’s new Sydney facility. The studio features a 150 sqm Dolby Atmos cinema, purpose-built to allow filmmakers to experience their stories at scale and fully realise the emotional weight of every scene.
With a dynamic start to the year, RMS continues to expand its collaborations with leading filmmakers, delivering world-class sound for cinema and streaming audiences alike. The team is grateful to have worked with such an array of accomplished filmmakers already and look forward to sharing the studio with these future collaborations.
