Queensland has been enjoying a busy start to 2025 with a strong slate of productions already completed. With breathtaking landscapes, state-of-the-art studios and competitive government incentives, it’s no surprise that producers are setting their sights on the sunshine state.

Queensland continues to build its reputation as a screen production paradise. Projects across a range of budgets are benefiting from an ever-expanding sector with hubs in Brisbane, Cairns and the Gold Coast. All regions are serviced by direct international flights and boast world-class studios, post-production facilities and access to a renowned crew base.

From the ancient rainforests and pristine beaches of tropical North and Far North Queensland, to Brisbane’s stately heritage architecture and riverfront views, Queensland’s diverse natural and built environments also offer endless creative potential.

“The location and aesthetic offer incredibly cinematic and diverse landscapes and scenery, so we thought of actually shooting a film here that is set here.”

From tense action thrillers and hilarious comedies to captivating family adventures, Queensland has already hosted a bumper slate of productions this year, with a steady pipeline continuing throughout 2025.

Productions have included season two of Legendary Entertainment’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Sony Pictures’ Anaconda, Amazon MGM Studio’s Voltron, Black Bear and Suzanne Todd Productions’ Spa Weekend, David Walliam’s FING! from King Bert Productions and Story Bridge Films, and back-to-back projects in Bear Country and Runner from A Higher Standard and Nickel City Pictures.

Recent releases include Black Snow, Darby and Joan, Good Cop/Bad Cop, Nautilus, Spit and The Lost Tiger, with Dangerous Animals and Mortal Kombat 2 confirmed for release later in the year.

The Gold Coast continues to be at the heart of the state’s production sector, recently shortlisted in the ‘City of Film’ category at the 2025 Global Production Awards—alongside New York City, Belfast, Zagreb and Sydney. Home to some of the most renowned filming locations, the Gold Coast is now one of the most sought-after destinations for screen production and major industry events, including the AACTA Awards and Festival and the upcoming Screen Forever conference.

“Queensland’s Gold Coast offers an unbeatable combination of diverse locations, talented local crews and fantastic creatives. This, combined with the great support from Screen Queensland is why I’m excited to be back in Queensland to shoot Bear Country.”

With a strong start to the year and a steady flow of projects on the horizon, Queensland’s screen industry shows no signs of slowing down. Backed by world-class facilities, diverse locations, skilled crews and continued investment, Queensland continues to prove itself as one of the most exciting screen production destinations in the world.
