The Hunting set for UK prime time 

South Australian filmed drama series The Hunting is premiering at Series Mania Melbourne and has been picked up by Viacom-owned UK network Channel 5 for primetime broadcast.

The four-part drama by Adelaide based Closer Productions is directed by Sophie Hyde, fresh from helming the upcoming Alia Shawkat feature Animals.

Starring Asher Keddie (X Men Origins: Wolverine) and Richard Roxburgh (Hacksaw Ridge, Moulin Rouge!), The Hunting will air in the UK after its August 1 Australian premiere.

I Am Mother and Cargo top Netflix originals list

South Australian made films I Am Mother and Cargo have been named among the Top 50 Best Netflix Originals of all time by international critics.

Business Insider created the definitive ranking by analysing critical scores from Rotten Tomatoes. I Am Mother – starring Hilary Swank and filmed almost entirely at Adelaide Studios – ranked #16 while post-apocalyptic thriller Cargo starring Martin Freeman (2017) came in at #30. I Am Mother director Grant Sputore’s next feature is Warner Bros’ sci-fi thriller Augmented, produced by fellow Aussie, Margot Robbie.

Emmy nominated Director’s next film locates to South Australia

2019 Emmy-nominated Australian director Daina Reid (The Handmaid’s Tale) is set to steer her first feature film, Run Rabbit Run in South Australia.

Based on a screenplay by New York Times best-selling South Australian author Hannah Kent (Burial Rites)Run Rabbit Run is described as a “modern-day ghost story”.

Casting begins on New Line’s Mortal Kombat 

Casting has begun on New Line Cinema’s highly-anticipated action film Mortal Kombat, filming in South Australia in September, with Indonesian actor and martial artist Joe Taslim announced for the role of Sub-Zero.

Australian casting for the film is being handled by Heesom Casting, based at Adelaide Studios, with call outs for key supporting roles and 1,500 extras. Taslim, who made his big-screen debut in The Raid, currently stars in Cinemax series Warrior having appeared in The Fast and the Furious 6 and The Night Comes for Us.

Award-winning commercial filmmaker Simon McQuoid will make his feature directorial debut on Mortal Kombat, which will be produced by James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring films) and Todd Garner (Isn’t it Romantic, Tag) with executive producers Larry Kasanoff (Mortal Kombat, True Lies), E. Bennett Walsh (Men in Black: International, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Michael Clear (The NunLights Out), and Sean Robins (Playing with Fire, Tag).
