MEET FILM VICTORIA’S JOE BRINKMANN

WHAT IS FILM VICTORIA’S JOE BRINKMANN DOING DURING ISOLATION?

I’m watching … Victorian-made feature films Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears (on UKTV’s Alibi and Acorn TV in the US) and True History of the Kelly Gang. I’m also watching Selling Houses Australia, because a bit of virtual tourism is welcome right now to break the cabin fever. Plus some episodes are set in regional Victoria and I love finding a great new location.

I’m listening to … a lot of great Spotify playlists – some recommended by friends, some I’ve stumbled across and some I’ve created myself. My friend’s playlist, Music to Lay Low To is getting lots of plays at the moment.

I’m reading… A Gentleman in Moscow by American author Amor Towles. Coincidently it’s about a man who is under house arrest in the Metropol Hotel in Moscow (though he’s in there for life!) which puts things in perspective. The writing is beautiful and you get a great snapshot of what Russia was like during the first half of the 20th century.

I’m cooking … Anzac biscuits with my two kids. (April 25 in Australia and New Zealand is ANZAC Day, which marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during WWI.) My children each had a recipe they needed to make for their school work so we did two batches. We had to substitute in some good old Canadian maple syrup because the supermarkets had sold out of golden syrup – but it worked out well, they were delicious!
