Supported through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, Endemol Shine Australia’s hugely popular reality TV format Australian Survivor filmed Season 6 in Cloncurry in outback Queensland, 1,700 km north-west of Brisbane.

Australian Survivor: Brains Vs. Brawn is on Australian screens now on Network 10 (a ViacomCBS network) and streaming on 10 Play, and showcasing the arid, rugged beauty of this rural township.

In a departure from Survivor’s previous tropical island locations of Fiji and Samoa, Brains Vs. Brawn sees contestants competing against a backdrop of dusty red plains, craggy outcrops, dry grasslands and spectacular, expansive waterways.

Endemol Shine Australia’s Executive Producer Keely Sonntag said the new “epic” desert location provided variety for both audiences and contestants alike.

“Visually, the locations, wildlife, sunrises and sunsets were stunning and unlike anything we’d used before. The Cloncurry outback added a whole other level of interest and spectacle that could never be achieved overseas. We had the space and facilities to produce one of the largest reality shows in Australia, the weather was ideal for our shoot period, and the local crew were extremely talented and hard-working.”

“We also had the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from the Mitakoodi People, the Traditional Owners of the Country on which Survivor was filmed, which was a hugely rewarding part of the experience.”
