On the back of considerable growth across local and international projects, Australian Post & VFX studio KOJO, welcomes back VFX Producer, Richard Thwaites who has returned home to Australia to take on the newly created role of Executive Producer – VFX & Post-Production.
Richard has spent the last three years working in the United States at the prestigious stop motion animation and VFX studio, LAIKA, where he ran the VFX team, contributing to a number of projects but most specifically their recent feature release, Missing Link.
“LAIKA is an amazing studio and their hybrid filmmaking techniques are outstanding. The complexities behind every shot and the artistic contribution are second to none. Missing Link has over 1,480 highly complicated VFX shots and the final result is both technically seamless and visually beautiful.” Richard said.
“I consider myself one of the most fortunate VFX practitioners in Australia, through my career I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to numerous films, working with international and Australian filmmaking legends. My hope is for those collective experiences to benefit our Australian screen industry and the incredible talent we have here in Australia.”
After a stellar run of high profile projects such as Hotel Mumbai, Storm Boy, I Am Mother, The Nightingale, Pine Gap and Top End Wedding, Richard joins KOJO as the studio ramps up for several new projects in 2019 and well into 2020.
“We are incredibly fortunate to work with clients who value our creative and technical solutions,” says KOJO Executive Director Marty Pepper. “Like all partnerships, it boils down to the quality of our people to bring these often complex projects together, I am thrilled Richard has headed back to KOJO to re-join our team as we look to grow our business internationally.”

“We are in a unique position to execute, facilitate and manage the production of post and VFX services within Australia. Our workflows and services are designed to be scalable and adaptable to best cater to any project and budget.” Richard says.
