The Gold Coast has been shortlisted as a leading ‘City of Film’ in the Global Production Awards 2025 alongside New York City, Belfast, Zagreb, and Sydney.

The awards celebrate outstanding and sustainable work in the world of film and TV production, locations and studios.

“This is a significant recognition of Gold Coast’s work to attract productions and investment, and grow the screen industry ecosystem to truly compete on an international scale,” said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.

“We have put in the hard yards to make our city a place film makers want to come while also supporting and growing local skills to ensure depth of crew.”

The Gold Coast Film Commission in partnership with TAFE Queensland produces a series of Screen Industry On Boarding Programs. This four-day accredited program over 2 weekends prepares crew to be ‘set’ ready. It includes sessions with key creative industry HODs, a resume-building workshop, access to industry contacts, and guidance on applying for positions. The program aims to create a pool of skilled crew members to support the screen industry. Notably, 30% of students who have completed the course have found employment in the industry.

Supported by the city’s Screen Attraction Program, the Gold Coast is one of the most sought-after locations for screen productions in the Southern Hemisphere.

The city is home to world class facilities, internationally recognised crews, and has another major studio complex in the pipeline.

The Gold Coast screen industry generated $571.6 million for the local economy and supported 4,832 jobs in the year ending June 2023, and is now the second largest screen industry in Australia.

The Gold Coast is also a member of the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), a global non-profit organisation that provides advocacy, connectivity and education for film commissions and screen businesses.

The Global Production Awards will be held at the Mademoiselle Gray Plage Barrière during the Cannes Film Festival on 19 May 2025 For more details about the Gold Coast Screen On Boarding Program and Screen Attraction Program, visit goldcoastfilmcommission.au.
