In October, Fox Studios Australia was officially renamed as Disney Studios Australia.

The renaming of the expansive Sydney facility recognises the important place it has as part of The Walt Disney Studios and The Walt Disney Company’s significant footprint in Australia.

“Our Studios put Australia on the world stage of filmmaking, from blockbusters including The Matrix and Moulin Rouge!, to Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder most recently filmed here. Our facilities are well utilised by many production companies and studios, and we’re pleased this activity will continue. We couldn’t be more proud to announce the new name and a new era for Disney Studios Australia.”

Yasmine Lintmeijer, Head of Disney Studios Australia

Disney Studios Australia occupies a substantial 32-acre site in the centre of Sydney. Consisting of 9 world-class sound stages supported by production offices, workshops, theatres and a portfolio of around 50 supporting businesses, including the Industrial Light & Magic team of visual effects artists operating on the lot.

Since opening in May 1998, then part of 20th Century Fox and acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2019, the studios have operated as the largest integrated facility in the Southern Hemisphere – a truly world-class site for filming and post-production.

Ms Lintmeijer says the studios are an important part of Australia’s creative infrastructure as well as The Walt Disney Company’s presence here in Australia.

Currently shooting on the lot is 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, confirming Disney’s commitment to creating jobs and bringing significant investment to Australia.
