Award-winning documentary Firestarter – The Story of Bangarra has been selected to screen at two prestigious documentary film festivals in June 2021.

The NSW-made production will screen at Sheffield Doc/Fest in the UK and San Francisco DocFest in the US, with virtual and physical screenings at both. The San Francisco screening will be held at the iconic Roxie Theatre on Thursday June 17 at 5pm.

Firestarter – The Story of Bangarra tells the story of how three Aboriginal brothers took a newly born dance group and, along with founders and alumni, turned it into a globally revered First Nations cultural powerhouse.

The documentary’s recent selection follows earlier international success at the Pan African Film & Arts Festival, DOXA and Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival where it was voted a top 20 audience favourite. In Australia, Firestarter won Best Feature Documentary at the Adelaide Film Festival and the Audience Award at Screenwave International Film Festival.
