We work closely with productions to understand their sustainability objectives and help reduce their environmental footprint — particularly in travel and transportation, which are consistently among the top three contributors to a production’s carbon emissions.

During our production kick-off call, we focus on identifying the key priorities for the production, including the role sustainability and carbon footprint reduction play in travel decisions and financial budgeting throughout the project. What is your sustainability plan?

At BCD, sustainability isn’t just something we’re passionate about, it’s woven into the fabric of who we are as an organization.  We saw a real opportunity to support productions in a practical way, particularly when it comes to entering data into the Albert calculator.

We’ve created studio-specific accommodation guides across Australia that highlight properties key sustainability initiatives and relevant to the Albert Calculator requirements – such as the use of renewable energy and other environmentally conscious initiatives. These guides cater to cast, crew, and executive stays. Each listing includes the hotel’s sustainable practices, including its environmental policy and energy tariff, helping productions make informed, eco-friendly accommodation choices.

We recognize many hotels go above and beyond with their own sustainability initiatives – from EV charging stations and waste reduction to accessible accommodation and community engagement.  We can showcase the work being done to support responsible and sustainable travel.  These insights help productions make informed decisions that align with their environmental goals, especially for longer accommodation stays where sustainable practices can have a greater impact.

Transport plays a key part in any production and we’ve partnered with vendors – both rental (cars/trucks) and chauffeur services, who operate proven fleets of electric or hybrid vehicles and have made these options accessible from a pricing standpoint. These sustainability efforts allow a production to save on fuel and other budgeted costs.

Ultimately, when it comes to making more sustainable choices, our goal has been to make the process easier and more accessible for everyone we work with—starting in pre-production, before travel options are shared with cast and crew.
