Australia’s favourite kelpie has returned in Red Dog: True Blue, the follow-up prequel to the highly successful Red Dog.

Red Dog won the hearts of Australian audiences on its release in 2011, earning more than $21 million at the Australian box office and becoming the highest-grossing Australian film that year, less than two weeks after opening.

Featuring a largely home-grown Australian cast, including Bryan Brown, Levi Miller and new red dog Phoenix, Red Dog: True Blue returns to the Pilbara to explore the events leading up to Red Dog’s discovery and his rise from ordinary dog to Australian legend.

Film Victoria provided Red Dog: True Blue with production attraction incentive support, ensuring that all post-production work was completed in Victoria. Award-winning Melbourne post-production facilities involved in the feature included Soundfirm and VFX studio Iloura, who recently received Emmy and AACTA awards for the ‘Battle of the Bastards’ sequence in Game of Thrones and an Oscar nomination for Iloura’s VFXsupervisor Jason Billington on Deepwater Horizon.

Soundfirm, helmed by acclaimed sound engineer Roger Savage, provided the high-quality picture and sound post-production, while renowned Victorian based composer Cezary Skubiszewski created the vibrant music score.

Red Dog: True Blue is produced by Nelson Woss, directed by Kriv Stenders, with the screenplay by Daniel Taplitz.

Film Victoria CEO, Jenni Tosi said “Five years ago audiences fell in love with Red Dog and the next instalment has delivered the same warmth and humour.”

“We’re incredibly proud that the quality and reputation of Victorian post production companies has allowed 100 per cent of the post-production on this film to occur in Victoria.”
