Ausfilm and a contingent of Australian screen businesses recently travelled to Europe, with two key stops to promote Australia as a leading co-production partner and world-class production destination.
First up was London, where we hosted a networking event at the iconic Australia House to foster creative connections and showcase Australia’s screen industry strengths. It was a pleasure to reconnect with familiar faces and welcome new ones, and we’re energised by the opportunities for future collaboration. A special thank you to the Australian High Commission and His Excellency The Honourable Stephen Smith for generously hosting the event.

Next, we travelled to France for the Annecy International Animation Film Market (MIFA), where Ausfilm led Australia’s first coordinated national presence under the banner Animation Australia. Delivered in partnership with state and territory screen agencies – VicScreen, Screen NSW, Screen Queensland, Screen Tasmania, Screen Territory and Screenwest – this initiative brought together over 40 Australian animation businesses and companies.

The delegation included Ausfilm members Dave Enterprises, Flying Bark Productions, Netflix Animation Studios and Princess Pictures, all helping to showcase the depth and diversity of Australia’s animation talent.

Ausfilm CEO Kate Marks said the initiative highlighted Australia’s world-class creative and technical expertise, as well as the competitiveness of its screen incentives. “Our national presence at Annecy helped spotlight the incredible creative talent and production capabilities Australia has to offer. It was also an opportunity to promote Australia’s 30% Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Offset, which provides significant value for international partners collaborating with Australian studios.”
Marks also noted that Australian animation is having a moment on the world stage, with Bluey named the #1 most-streamed show in the US for 2024 and a feature film in development, while Adam Elliot’s Memoir of a Snail – which won Annecy’s top prize for Best Feature in 2023 – went on to receive an Academy Award nomination.

Our Animation Australia stand provided a dedicated space for delegates to meet, network, and conduct business. The program also featured a panel event, meet-and-greets with international delegations, and a range of informal gatherings – all helping to spotlight the strength and creativity of Australian animation on the global stage.
